The Inspired to Be… book series is designed to amplify positive narratives of Black people while inspiring children to believe in their potential. Each story is inspired by real individuals, empowering young readers to say, “If they can do that, then so can I.” With universal themes of resilience, empathy, and self-belief, these books support both a growth mindset and social-emotional learning skills. The stories are crafted in rhyme and repetition to engage children and help them remember the important, uplifting messages within each tale. Accessible and inspiring for all children, regardless of race, this series is a celebration of possibility, perseverance, and positivity.

Hope & Healing: Pamela Blotner & Carol Newborg

This joint exhibition looks at what it means to be uprooted, imprisoned, or displaced. It also looks at what can be done to regenerate a community and/or terrain destroyed or harmed by war and climate change. The plant forms in Blotner’s sculptures reference both human refugees and their destroyed homes, while the tool forms- shovels, spades, and pitchforks- suggest that landscapes marred by war, wildfires and other disasters can be restored. Newborg’s work reflects on the excessive sentencing in our prisons, which separate people from family and society, causing individual and generational harm. The metal forms reflect on that harm, while the textiles wrapping the metal are an expression of the healing that rehabilitation and growth can bring.

Family print club! Children and families will learn to design, transfer, carve and print their own designs on paper using a variety of printing blocks and colorful (washable) inks to create a mini portfolio of their work they can take home with them.

This is a 3 hour class on a Saturday afternoon at $125 per student.

In this Love Letters Workshop, you’ll be invited to explore different expressions of love through writing: a love letter to yourself, to someone dear, to a departed loved one, or even to your younger self. With gentle guidance and thoughtful prompts, you’ll have the space and support to make this a truly meaningful experience.

Led by one of our very own Art Heart Club Members Jan Yaffe, a practicing psychotherapist with 45 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and groups, this workshop is designed to help you cultivate self-compassion, abundance, and lovingkindness. It’s a beautiful opportunity to connect with your heart — and give yourself the greatest gift of all.

This meetup is free to join but please let us know you are coming so we can prepare accordingly! Excited to see you at the Art Heart Club!

Happy Freedom Day!

The importance of Juneteenth as a national holiday cannot be understated. Juneteenth, the commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, is an important milestone in our progress towards a more perfect union. We must continue to move forward to guarantee equal rights for all of the citizens of the United States.

For the last three years, Abrams Claghorn has hosted the Albany Juneteenth Celebration. We produced this event with Tiffany Austin and Kenya Moses. The City of Albany provided crucial financial and in kind support as well.

We will not be producing and event this year. This decision is entirely financial; we simply cannot afford to produce this event this year. We are eternally grateful to all of you who supported this event, and to all the artists and musicians that participated.

For the last three years, Abrams Claghorn has hosted the Albany Juneteenth Celebration. We produced this event with Tiffany Austin and Kenya Moses. The City of Albany provided crucial financial and in kind support as well.

We will not be producing and event this year. This decision is entirely financial; we simply cannot afford to produce this event this year. We are eternally grateful to all of you who supported this event, and to all the artists and musicians that participated.

Manifesting Art Journaling with Nichole Talbott!! On July 13th join us for this fun workshop. Journaling is a powerful tool for self-care—a space to check in with where you’ve been, where you are, and where you hope to go. Using mixed media and collage techniques, you’ll draw on your memories, dreams, and passions to build layered, meaningful pages that reflect your inner world. This meditative and self-reflective process encourages clarity, intention, and emotional connection—helping you envision and invite in the life you truly desire.

No art experience is necessary—just an open heart and a willingness to explore. Leave with a beautiful, tangible reminder of your goals, your growth, and the possibilities ahead.

Participants are encouraged to bring pictures or copies of pictures, images, quotes or sayings that resonate, affirmations or pressed flowers that they may like to incorporate into their collage.
